On October 25th, The Parrot Heads of New Mexico in partnership with the Albuquerque Down’s Race Track and Casino are presenting the Total Jimmy Buffett Experience. This free event will include a customized tailgate party in the First Turn Lounge and Patio starting at 5pm followed by a live simulcast of the Jimmy Buffett concert from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The tailgate party includes live Trop Rock music from local favorites Dave Burke’s Jus 4 Fun Band and B-Man &the MizzBeeHavens. Finishing up the live music will be Trop Rock super star and New Mexico favorite Jerry Gontang. There will be four dress up contests; Best/Loudest Tropical Shirt, Craziest Hat, Best Lei, and most outlandish Jimmy Buffett themed costume. There will be a $100 prize for each of these contests. There will also be some great games going on including Chile Hole (NM’s version of corn hole), Hula Hoop contests, Limbo contests and our favorite – Stupid Parrot Head Tricks. There will be other surprises and swag around every corner, so come prepared for a great time. Food specials and drink specials will be provided by the great folks at the Downs.
At 9pm the live feed from Las Vegas will begin via margaritaville.tv. On the patio will be a 17’ x 10’ LED TV broadcasting the show. And yes, I did say 17’ x 10’ TV which is bigger than most of our dorm rooms in college!! Inside the lounge the show will be broadcast on 24 televisions. So whether you want to sit inside, outside, or both you will have a better view of the show than if you had gone to Las Vegas.
After the concert, the party will continue till 1am when the lounge closes. Or you could just head down the hall and visit the Down’s brand new casino. If you hit all sevens you may even become famous before midnight. You never know!!
We are asking that all members of Parrot Head groups register for the event. We will provide a lanyard with a customized name tag so everyone will know who you are. Please send an e-mail to secretary@parrotheadsofnm.com with your name, Parrot Head club, and any nick name you may want on your badge. Please have registrations in no later than October 17th.
We have partnered with the Marriott Uptown at 2101 Louisiana Blvd NE which is a scant few miles from the event. Room rates are $89.00 + tax. The hotel does have a shuttle service that runs till 9pm so it can be used to get to the Downs but will not be available for pick up. Albuquerque Taxi can get folks from the Downs back to the Marriott for about $10.00 per car load.
This promises to be a fantastic event for Parrot Heads and non-Parrot Heads alike. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
